I remembered when I was in junior class in National Grammar School Nike (NGS), we were about 60 students in my class and during the break period, we would engage in a football match with students from other classes and interestingly, there was no referee or any form of control. The condition for eligibility was being a member of the class playing that day. Sometimes, we ended up having about 40 students from one class and about 35 students from the other class and we still played it with all the joy in our hearts because the game brought us so much joy and happiness. We fondly called it Igwebuike back then at NGS, meaning crowd is strength.

We had many youth clubs in Enugu during my time, such as DD Pioneers, Olympic Bombers, Great Olympic, ASFAC, Cannon Fc, Black Rocks etc. I played for Olympic Bombers and it was fun as I played with absolute dedication and passion, not expecting anything in return. As at that time, football was everything in Coal city (042) because despite the heavy resistance from some of our parents, we still found ways to play football in any space possible at every chance we got.

From the late 80s to my set and after my set, one cannot successfully complete a football story without mentioning one name that made many young men believe and have confidence in themselves, talking about Late Mr Sunday Ogbonnaya Chukwu popularly known as Supremo Jangaza who raised lots of players that have made it to the highest level in their football career. As a matter of fact, any player who did not pass through Jangaza will be regards as INDOMIE generation. My special tribute goes to such great icon and a dedicated football coaching maestro.

During this youthful age while playing football, I still had the passion and desire to become a lawyer. That dream kept burning in me and so after my football career which was cut short due to a persistent injury I decided to travel to England. When I got to London, United Kingdom all I could think about was how to become a lawyer unlike many of my friends who just wanted to make it financially and return to Nigeria to invest. My desire was to come back home to Nigeria with ideas which can culminate to financial success, this burning desire helped me to constantly hold onto my dream of being a lawyer.

When I got my ground in England I proceeded to actualise my dream. I got admission to study Law at London Southbank University after a compulsory one year foundation course. It was a dream come true and the beginning of journey to the realization of my dreams in a transparent country like England, I knew without a doubt that it would require a lot of commitment and determination. Mario Andretti once said that ‘’Desire is the key to motivation, but it is determination and commitment to an unrelenting pursuit of one’s goal that enable one attain the success he seeks”. Therefore, in my mind I knew it was not going to be an easy task but at the same time with determination, commitments and God grace I was going to excel.

Another thing I have also come to terms with is the fact that, one excels in the things he has passion for and because I had such a great passion for Law, I believe I am going to excel.

During my time at the university, I became the student’s Law society president where I had the opportunity to meet lots of dignitaries including the then prime ministry of the United kingdom David Cameron, former United kingdom Mister of Justice, David Lloyds, first and only UK female Supreme court judge, Lady Hale of Richmond, Lord Robert John Reed the president of United Kingdom supreme court and many others who invited me on different occasions as the president of the student Law society.  I graduated with Merit (2:1), which gave me a lot of confident and hope to forge ahead.

After my first degree in law I proceeded to Queen Mary University of London, which is one of the best university of law in United Kingdom where I acquired LLM (Masters of Laws) in International Commercial & Corporate Law. I came out also with Merit (2:1). At that stage, it was no longer a dream but a reality. I was later attached to Anthony Gold Solicitors which is one of the leading Law firm in London.

However, as the saying goes that there is no place like home, I made up my mind to establish a Firm (Law Chamber) in Nigeria but to do this one must attend Nigeria Law School and be called to the Nigerian bar. I enrolled at the Nigeria Law school and completed the required Bar 1 as a foreign student and equally passed the bar 2. I was called to Nigeria bar as a Barrister and solicitor of Supreme Court of Nigeria in 2019 and an accredited member of Nigeria Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC). Presently to the glory of God Almighty, the Principal owner of LAW ACCORD LEGAL PRACTITIONERS office located in FCT Abuja Nigeria

Substitute Isreal Abia Scores To Hand Rangers First Win Of The Season https://chopmarket.com/substitute-isreal-abia-scores-to-hand-rangers-first-win-of-the-season/ Tue, 05 Jan 2021 18:41:53 +0000 https://chopmarket.com/2017/04/02/hello-world-15/ A 67th-minute strike from substitute Isreal Abia ensured that Enugu Rangers took maximum points against Akwa United on Sunday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium Enugu.

A 67th-minute strike from substitute Isreal Abia ensured that Enugu Rangers took maximum points against Akwa United on Sunday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium Enugu.

Rangers coach Salisu Yussuf made three changes to the side that lost 1-0 to Rivers United last Wednesday as Christian Nnaji, Ernest Governor, and Ifeanyi Nweke were all given a chance to impress.

The match had little clear cut chances in the 1st half except for the 15th minute when Ernest Governor found himself free at the back post and conjured a powerful header which looked destined to end up in the net but for Akwa United’s Cameroonian goalkeeper Jean Epala who parried the ball over the bar.

Epala once again rescued Akwa United in 1st half stoppage time when he saved a finely curled free-kick from substitute Dauda Madaki who had only been on the pitch for some minutes after replacing the injured Ibrahim Olawoyin.

The second half started with both sides making substitutions. Akwa United brought in Mfon Udoh while Rangers brought in Ugochukwu Ugwuoke and Isreal Abia.

These substitutions proved to be the difference as Ugwuoke started the move which led up to the goal as he picked up a loose ball from his own half and sent a through pass wide to Ifeanyi Nweke who in turn delivered a good ball into the penalty box.

The Akwa United defense failed to clear the ball properly which fell nice unto striker Isreal Abia who made no mistake in scoring.

Papa Bouba Diop: Senegal Mourns Football Hero https://chopmarket.com/papa-bouba-diop-senegal-mourns-football-hero/ Sat, 05 Dec 2020 18:40:36 +0000 https://chopmarket.com/2017/04/02/hello-world-13/

Senegalese football hero Papa Bouba Diop, who died in France last week aged 42, has been buried at a private ceremony at his birthplace near Dakar.

On Friday, President Macky Sall led tributes to him, saying the nation’s loss was “immense”.

Diop scored the only goal in the 2002 World Cup match which saw Senegal upset then reigning champions France.

Several of his former teammates, some overcome with emotion, attended Friday’s ceremony.

They wore the shirts of the national team bearing his name, and his number, 19.

Striker El Hadji Diouf said Diop had been a model team-mate, while Henri Camara said he had lost his “twin brother”.

Diop’s body was flown back on Friday from Lens in northern France, where he died after a long illness.

President Sall said that Diop’s goal against France meant Senegal would go down in the annals of global football.

After beating France, Senegal reached the quarter-finals. No African team has gone further.

The president announced that a museum at a 50,000-seater stadium being built outside the capital, Dakar, would be named after Diop, who has also been given a posthumous national award, the Knight of the National Order of Merit.

The highlight of his club career was winning the 2008 FA Cup with Portsmouth. He also played for Fulham, West Ham United, Birmingham City and French club Lens.

His Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp last week told the BBC he was very lucky to have managed such a fantastic boy – he was special”.

“They called him the Wardrobe, he was so big you couldn’t move him,” he said.

Festus “Yekini” Agu Admitted Into The Rolls Of Solicitor in England https://chopmarket.com/festus-yekini-agu-admitted-into-the-rolls-of-solicitor-in-england/ Fri, 10 Jan 2020 18:41:08 +0000 https://chopmarket.com/2017/04/02/hello-world-14/ Folks, please join me in celebrating another very important milestone in my life. After 18 eventful years of professional football career which I had to sadly quit as a result of chronic injuries.
A career which started at “Nitel” Vasco Dagama Football Club, Enugu, Nigeria in 1988/1989; later moving to the African Continental Bank (ACB) Football club of Lagos in 1990 and becoming one of the pioneer members of the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) inaugurated on the 12th May 1990 as a player.
I subsequently played for 5 different professional club sides in Nigeria, before moving abroad. I became the first ever “African professional footballer” to play in the over 3,640 metre altitude Bolivian premier league with the Club Bolivar, Lapaz, Bolivia in South America after a record transfer fee as the leading scorer for Enugu Rangers FC in the Nigerian Professional football league in 1994.
After a short stint in Bolivia, I moved to the North-western city of Santiago De Compostela where I played for SD Compostela in the 1995/1996 -1996/1997 Spanish (LaLiga) Premier league before taking my football talents to the German Bundesliga from the 1998/1999 season and played for a total of 6 clubs and emerging as the top scorer each season for all the club sides and ending my career in the German second Bundesliga team FC St Pauli, Hamburg, Germany in 2005/2006 season.
I moved to the United Kingdom after ending my football career following series of recurring injuries to start a new career. As the saying goes, “whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve.
After my secondary school education at Agba Grammar School in Uromi, Edo state, Nigeria in the mid-1980s, circumstances including football made it difficult for me to continue to the university. Little did I know that this was a calling and a blessing in disguise and the rest today is history. As the saying goes, “It is never too late to be what you might have been”.
More than twenty years after, I am still able to pursue my dreams and after successful completion of my undergraduate Law degree with the Open University in England in 2009, I went on to complete the Legal Practice Course (with a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice) at the Birmingham City University (School of Law) in 2013. After this all efforts to secure a “Training Contract” (a two-year placement that is undertaken by “trainee solicitors” as final step before qualification became so difficult that I almost wanted to change career.
Nevertheless, like they say, “Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence”. “Life they say, begins at the end of our comfort zone”. I continued to trust in my dreams and had to voluntarily undertake a variety of administrative and legal works for free for various law firms in different cities in England believing that “No matter how long the night the day is sure to come”
I am happy to say that after a very difficult and challenging period of studies and legal training in what initially seemed impossible. It is an honour and a great privilege to officially announce that I have been admitted to the “Rolls of Solicitors” as a Solicitor of the “Senior Courts of England and Wales” and now a practicing solicitor and advocate in England and Wales.
My very special thanks go to the “Principal” (solicitor) of EcoM Solicitors here in Tottenham, London for making this dream a reality by giving me the opportunity and standing by me during the 2 years of my training at EcoM Solicitors. I also want to thank all the solicitors and staff of EcoM Solicitors for their immense support.

My gratefulness also goes to members of my family, friends, partners, colleagues and a very special people for their undiluted and unflinching support and encouragement during this very difficult period. Thank you for making these challenging moments more bearable. I cannot find a card that expresses my gratitude the way I wanted. All I can say is that you are all appreciated
This is a very significant moment and the start of a new chapter in my life. My joy knows no bounds. As I start a new dawn, it is my desire to give back to the community where I come from locally and around the world in any little way in appreciation.
God bless us all.

Festus Agu.
